Today, I am scheduled to renew my Global Entry so I thought it appropriate to have a quote about travel. This is one of my favorites from one of my favorite writers. Author of “The Mosquito Coast” and the “The Christmas Card” (among lots of othes) and countless travel writings, Theroux’s writing is engaging and bit ‘out there’ in the best possible way.
“You define a good flight by negatives: you didn’t get hijacked, you didn’t crash, you didn’t throw up, you weren’t late, you weren’t nauseated by the food. So you are grateful”
-Paul Theroux
I think that this is an amazing mindset to adopt for when we have to deal with those inevitable shitty flights we all must endure from time to time. You know, those flights with the crying baby, the middle seat, the armrest battles – you get the idea.
What do you think? How do you gauge a successful flight? Let me know in the comments and thanks for stopping by!
Nice article. I’m tall so I appreciate aisle seats or the ones near the exits that have a lot of space in front of them. So for me arriving at my destination without cramping up would be a successful flight.

Hez! Thanks for visiting the blog! I always feel a twinge of guilt when all 5 foot 3 inches of my settles into the paradise of an over-wing exit row aisle seat – premium aircraft real estate! I can’t imagine the agony of having your knees crushed every time the person in front of you moves. 😁
