Wow! I can’t believe February is close to over! It makes me think of how quickly time passes, especially after age 40…and 50…and…..
Of course, that lead me to think about aging and how we are bombarded with messages of aging being bad. Anti-aging skincare, treatments, etc. It’s gotten a little old, frankly (hee hee, I can’t resist a cheeky pun) and I am happy that there seems to be a movement to embrace aging. Bloggers like That’s Not My Age are leading the charge and showing positive imagery and featuring actual real women who have some mileage, style, value, and voice.
All of this just to introduce today’s quote for #WednesdayWisdom? Sorry, here you go.
“Let us never know what old age is. Let us know the happiness time brings, not count the years.”
– Ausonius
Old age is a natural process and, for many, comes with physical challenge and perhaps mental decline. I think we should strive to practice healthy habits, exercise our minds, seek out social engagement, and embrace our ‘golden years’. Why?
Well, the alternatives aren’t fabulous. You can be bitter about being lucky enough to have lived a long life or you can be dead. That may be harsh, but I think we should lean into the aging process, armed with information, a positive attitude, and appreciation for every memory we have. Trust me, there are days when I count the new lines that appeared overnight and lament my neck, but then I forget about what I look like when I see something amazing, or laugh at something funny, or think about a problem to solve.
What do you think? Are you embracing the natural process of aging or not? All opinions are welcome, so add your comment below!
