Happy Memorial Day 2017

Today is the Memorial Day holiday in the United States. A holiday that started as Decoration Day in post-Civil War America, and became a federal holiday in 1971, it marks the unofficial start to the U.S. summer season.

It is a time of weekend getaways and backyard cook-outs, but should also be a time for remembrance honoring those who died in service to the country. Every year, I say (or write) the same thing: Regardless of where your politics lie, it is important to mark the sacrifice our Armed Forces have made.

So whether you hoist the flag of your nation, attend a prayer service, or just take a few moments of silence before you dig into the potato salad, please make Memorial Day a time for remembrance.

Wishing you peace, love, travel (and safety).
