Travel Style – 5 Days in Vancouver: Travel Wardrobe

This time next week, I will be enjoying Vancouver and the surrounding area. So far, I am planning to explore the city over two days, take a side trip to Whistler for a day, try to get some whale watching in, and maybe do some hiking north of West Vancouver. Admittedly, it is an ambitious list so my packing list has to be multi-functional.

Right now, I am planning on the minimum number of items – all well-loved versatile favorites – that can take me from lunch in Chinatown to a gondola ride up Blackcomb Mountain. Considering the weather is expected to be in the mid 50s (13C) and rainy, I am packing layers (as always) and clothes that will keep me dry but still look somewhat stylish.

TIP: Your travel clothes should be made up of your regular clothes and you should pack only what you feel good wearing.

My regular wardrobe is over 90% black, hence the color palette below. As I get closer to departure, the list may change, but right now my wardrobe includes:

With these pieces I can remix, layer, and restyle for a variety of outfits. Jewelry will be simple, a pair of lever-backed earrings, a watch, and a pendant necklace I can use to dress up the black sweater and black jeans with the oxfords and trench coat for a slightly fancy dinner venue. In the event of a warm snap, the black blazer over the graphic tee with some rolled jeans and oxfords make a good option.

All of this (except what I wear in transit) will pack into the Lucas Underseat bag, including the leather backpack. The Le Pliage will hold my camera, wallet, iPad, inflight comfort pouch, and snack pouch.

After the trip, I’ll write a recap of what actually made the cut and what I’d pack differently. What do you think? How would you pack for 5 days in Canada? Let me know in the comments!
