Australia. I loved all of it and long to return. Cutting a swath from South Australia to Darwin, I found every place to be as amazing as the last. It is nigh on impossible to name my favorite place but if forced, Port Douglas would easily be in the top 5. Laid back, near perfect weather, and a prime spot for exploration this small town is sparsely (during the off season) populated and offers a deep dose of the Australian experience (friendly people, natural beauty, beer, and ocean-based activities.
Such a perfect place needs the perfect place to stay and for me, the Martinique on Macrossan absolutely lived up to my expectations. It is the perfect place to explore Port Douglas. The location is excellent; near everything yet away from the noise. It’s a 3 minute walk to a great beach with beautiful views and easily walkable to the main part of Port Douglas.
Antonia and Fred, the owners, were incredibly delightful and helpful with recommendations on places to eat and things to do. The suite of rooms is a one-bedroom apartment with a balcony which was a good size and laid out quite well. The kitchenette is just that, basically outfitted with everything you need to make breakfast, lunch or a simple dinner. You won’t be cooking a Thanksgiving dinner in it, but why would you want to when you are on vacation? It has all you need (fridge, toaster, kettle, dishes, cutlery, etc.). What really impressed me where the little in-room details such as the elegant soaps and decorator touches. Antonia seems to understand that these little things have a big impact on the overall experience.
Would I Stay Here Again? Most definitely!
High Point: Location, amenities, setting, value, etc.
Low Point: We had to leave the Martinique.
I didn’t take any interior photos because I was too preoccupied with the beauty of the property, including the lush landscaping, the shaded reading patio, and the gorgeous pool area. Here are a few shots to whet your appetite!
